Basic class

The basic class addresses the following topics:
1. An introduction into soldering, electronic devices and their identification, assembly of prototypes of electronic circuits with leaded devices on strip boards.
2. Examination of electronic devices via multimeter and oszilloscope, methodical troubleshooting of electronic circuits, function check.
3. Basics of radio reception technology, assembly of a receiver kit with discrete semiconductor elements and integrated circuits.
4. Design of electronic printed circuit boards (PCB) with a computer via multilayer technology for leaded devices, insertion in the circuit boards thus obtained, initiation and function check.
5. Computer based PCB-design for electronic circuits in SMD-technology, insertion in the boards thus obtained, initiation and function check.


Im Grundkurs werden folgende Themen behandelt:
1. Einführung in die Grundlagen des Lötens, elektronische Bauelemente und ihre Kennzeichnungen, Aufbau von Prototypen elektronischer Schaltungen mit bedrahteten Bauelementen auf Lochrasterplatinen.
2. Überprüfung elektronischer Schaltungen mit Hilfe von Multimeter und Oszilloskop, systematische Fehlersuche in elektronischen Schaltungen, Funktionskontrolle.
3. Grundlagen analoger Rundfunkempfangstechnik, Aufbau eines Empfängerbausatzes mit diskreten Halbleiterbauelementen und integrierten Schaltungen.
4. Entwurf elektronischer Leiterplatten (Printed Circuit Board, PCB) am Computer in Multilayer-Technik für bedrahtete Bauelemente, Bestückung der so erhaltenen Platinen, Inbetriebnahme und Funktionskontrolle.
5. Computergestützter PCB-Entwurf für elektronische Schaltungen in SMD-Technik, Bestückung der so erhaltenen Platinen, Inbetriebnahme und Funktionskontrolle.
6. Analoge Audio-Verstärker, Arbeitspunkte, Verstärker und Filter mit Operationsverstärkern

Die Grundkurse finden im Raum BA 304 zu den jeweils angegebenen Terminen (Gruppenstärke etwa vier bis sechs Personen) statt.

Circuit Simulation

OrCad Lab
In the scope of this module some basic knowledge of simulation of analog and digital circuits are shown.

Besides using this knowledge to design your own circuits within the Electronic Workshop, the module is also considered to give better understanding of the “Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering 2” lessons. The aim of this module is to learn how to simulate electric circuits using OrCAD with PSpice and how to solve AC and DC circuits by using different analysis methods.

Within this module the following software products will be presented:

OrCAD PCB Designer by Cadence® contains a fully integrated design flow that includes a constraint manager, design capture technology, component tools, a PCB editor, an auto/interactive router, and interfaces for manufacturing and mechanical CAD.

At the heart of OrCAD PCB Designer is OrCAD PCB Editor, an interactive environment for creating and editing simple to complex multi-layer PCBs. The extensive feature set addresses a wide range of design and manufacturability challenges. OrCAD PCB Designer and OrCAD PCB Designer with PSpice both include Cadence SPECCTRA® for OrCAD, the market-leading PCB solution for automatic and interactive interconnect routing. Designed to handle routing challenges requiring complex design rules, it uses powerful shape-based algorithms for speed and efficient use of the routing area. Optional PSpice® circuit analysis and simulation capabilities integrated with the included OrCAD Capture facilitates rapid design-and-simulate cycles, allowing engineers to explore various design configurations before committing to a specific circuit implementation.

A common database architecture, use model, and library offer truly scalable PCB solutions for both OrCAD and Allegro products, allowing engineers the ability to migrate to the Allegro PCB technologies as their designs and design challenges increase in complexity.

PSpice® A/D by Cadence® is the de-facto industry-standard Spice-based simulator for system design. It simulates complex mixed-signal designs containing both analog and digital parts, and it supports a wide range of simulation models such as IGBTs, pulse width modulators, DACs, and ADCs. Its built-in mathematical functions and behavioral modeling techniques enable fast and accurate simulation of designs with efficient debugging. PSpice A/D also allows users to design and generate simulation models for transformers and DC inductors.

Scalability options include PSpice Advanced Analysis capabilities and integration with MathWorks MATLAB Simulink for co-simulation. Advanced capabilities such as temperature and stress analysis, electro-mechanical simulation, worst-case analysis, Monte Carlo analysis, and curve-fit optimizers help engineers design high-performance circuits that are reliable and withstand parameter variation.

The EAGLE Layout Editor is an easy to use, yet powerful tool for designing printed circuit boards (PCBs). The name EAGLE is an acronym, which stands for Easily Applicable Graphical Layout Editor

EAGLE is another Schematic Designer and PCB (Printed circuit board) Designer that is capable of drawing schematics. EAGLE is the preferred Designer in the Electronic Workshop. The schematics from EAGLE can be exported to OrCAD for simulations. The advantage of using EAGLE is that it has lots of inbuilt Libraries containing various electrical elements. It also includes Libraries from particular manufacturers such as Siemens, Panasonic etc. and it is the only supported program by the workshop.
